More than 1,600 adult guardians are expected to participate in the latest round of training from the Ohio Supreme Court Judicial College.

The sessions on Oct. 29 and 30 are being broadcast to audiences in the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center in Columbus and 29 other sites across the state. The free six-hour course will provide laypersons, attorneys, and other professionals with guardianship fundamentals that are required by courts. Coursework includes details about a guardian’s responsibilities, reporting requirements, and the rights of adult wards.

Courses are being offered monthly throughout Ohio, and the 2016 schedule will be released soon. There’ve also been 1,000 guardians enrolled in the online courses that are available on-demand.

Registration information and a video explaining the new adult guardianship rules are available online.

Guardians appointed after June 1, 2015, are required to complete a fundamentals course within six months of their appointment date. Guardians appointed on or before June 1, 2015, will have until June 1, 2016, to complete the course.
