Ohio Appeals Court App, Version 1.0.3

It’s been a few months since the Sixth District Court of Appeals released an app for users to follow court decisions on their smartphones.

Court Administrator Jason Hill said it hasn’t been without hiccups, including what happened just a few days after the app went up on the Apple App Store.

“Apple released a new version of iOS, the operating system, which our developer tells us was unexpected. It wreaked havoc on the app – so much that anyone who updated to iOS9 couldn’t use the app,” Hill said.

After weeks of redesign, the updated app is available for downloading.

“You’re going to be able to register to receive notifications whenever our court releases a final merit decision or updates its argument or submission calendar, and then you can also register to track a certain case,” according to Hill.

Hill said feedback from users has been positive, especially when notification through the app comes within minutes compared to the days it takes through the mail, and the Sixth District is considering ways to expand the service as it continues to embrace the technology.

“The public is embracing the technology, too, and that changes their expectations of the way that we interact with them and provide them information.”

The free app is available for Apple and Android phones.
