Eighth District Judge Hears Supreme Court Case

Eighth District Court of Appeals Judge Kathleen A. Keough served as a visiting judge on the Ohio Supreme Court today and heard oral arguments in a case about contempt of court orders and when a party may appeal the action to a higher court.
Judge Keough replaced Justice William M. O’Neill,who recused himself from Docks Venture LLC v. Dashing Pacific Group LTD. (Case No. 2013-0473). The case is out of the Sixth District Court of Appeals in Lucas County.
According to the Ohio Constitution, in the event of a recusal by a justice, the chief justice can select any of the 69 sitting Ohio appellate court judges to sit temporarily on the Supreme Court.
This was Judge Keough’s first time serving as a visiting judge on the Ohio Supreme Court.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve, and I welcomed the opportunity,” Judge Keough said.
Judge Keough has served the Eighth District Court of Appeals since January 2011. Before sitting on the appellate court bench, Judge Keough was a judge at Cleveland Municipal Court for 15 years. Judge Keough started her legal career in the Cuyahoga County Public Defender office. Judge Keough received her law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. She is married and has two daughters.
The Eight District Court of Appeals serves Cuyahoga County in northern Ohio, and hears cases from county, municipal and common pleas courts as well as original actions in habeas corpus, mandamus, prohibition, procedendo and quo warranto.
