Dublin attorney D. Allan Asbury has been named senior counsel for the Board of Commissioners on Grievances & Discipline. He started his new position today.

Asbury’s duties will include leading the board’s efforts to enhance understanding of and compliance with ethics standards applicable to Ohio lawyers and judges, assisting the board in its responsibility to issue advisory opinions, and providing support to board commissioners and staff regarding legal, procedural, and administrative matters. Asbury will work closely with Bexley attorney Heidi Wagner Dorn, who joined the board staff as part-time counsel in February.

“Allan Asbury brings more than 20 years of diverse legal practice to a position that is essential to the board’s mission of promoting a greater understanding of and adherence to the standards of professional conduct adopted by the Supreme Court of Ohio,” said board secretary Richard A. Dove. “Allan’s experience and judgment will continue our long-standing commitment to be a resource to members of Ohio bench and bar for timely and trusted advice.”

The board is composed of 28 members, appointed by the Supreme Court. Four are public members, seven are active or retired judges, and 17 are lawyers from throughout the state. The board issues findings and recommendations to the Supreme Court on ethical misconduct complaints lodged against Ohio attorneys and judges, and its staff provides advice and education to promote the understanding of and compliance with rules governing the professional conduct of attorneys and judges.

Asbury most recently served as administrative counsel in the Office of the Administrative Director. Previously, he served as attorney services counsel in the Attorney Services Division. Asbury began his employment at the court in 2005 as the secretary to the Board on the Unauthorized Practice of Law. From 1994 to 2005, Asbury served as senior counsel for the regional transit authority in central Ohio.

Asbury earned his bachelor’s and law degrees at Capital University. He was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio on November 8, 1993.
