Judges across the country are being encouraged to engage with their communities as part of a nationwide program to help inform and educate the public about the importance of courts and upholding the rule of law.
The third annual National Judicial Outreach Week – which takes place from March 1-10 – is an initiative for active and retired judges to engage with citizens about the importance of fair and impartial courts, as well as the work judges do.
As part of the effort, judges can invite residents – especially students and young people – to their courthouses and go out into the community to discuss the fundamentals of the courts in the success of American democracy.
The push for public awareness was approved by the Conference of Chief Justices and Conference of State Court Administrators. In conjunction with the American Bar Association, resource materials are available for judges to assist with their efforts.
