Governor Appoints Painesville Municipal Judge

Judge James R. O’Leary was recently appointed as the new judge on the Painesville Municipal Court. Judge O’Leary replaces Judge Michael Cicconetti, who retired.

Judge O’Leary will take office today, and must run in the November 2019 election to serve the remainder of the term which ends Dec. 31, 2023.

“I am excited to be appointed judge of the Painesville Municipal Court,” Judge O’Leary said. “I was born and raised in the area, and I look forward to serving the community.”

Before the appointment, Judge O’Leary worked as a magistrate for the Lake County Juvenile Court. He also was a police prosecutor for Kirtland Hills Village, law director for the city of Willoughby Hills, and assistant law director for the villages of Grand River and Kirtland Hills.

Judge O’Leary received his bachelor’s degree from Lake Erie College in Painesville and his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

Judge O’Leary is a member of the Lake County Bar Association.
