Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Brendan J. Sheehan
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Brendan J. Sheehan has been chosen by his peers as the court’s next administrative judge. His term begins Jan. 1, 2020. The administrative judge is responsible for appointing committees, presiding over the docket of the court’s general division, and speaking about court policy.
Judge Sheehan has served on the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court since January 2009. Prior to serving on the bench, he was in private practice as a civil and criminal litigator for 14 years.
“I am honored that my colleagues are entrusting me with this responsibility,” says Judge Sheehan. “We are a forward-thinking court, and I look forward to continuing the efforts of the administrative judges I have served with.”
Judge Sheehan currently serves as the chair for the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judicial Case Flow Committee. He also is an appointee to the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission on Professionalism and Ohio Jury Instructions Committee.
Judge Sheehan is a trustee for the Ohio Common Pleas Judges’ Association and a former trustee of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He also presides over the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court’s Violence Intervention Program (VIP), a pilot program designed to change thinking when it comes to the potential use of guns.
Judge Sheehan received his bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace University and his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He also earned a master’s degree in judicial studies from the University of Reno, Nevada.
