The Ohio Supreme Court will hold the April 7 and 8 oral arguments remotely due to the coronavirus.
The Ohio Supreme Court today announced that it will hold the April 7 and 8 oral arguments via videoconferencing in light of the public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Court’s seven justices will actively participate from their individual chambers at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center using remote technology. The traditional Courtroom will not be used for these sessions while social distancing directives are in effect.
Attorneys arguing cases also will be presenting their cases remotely. The public can watch the proceedings as they are livestreamed on the Ohio Government Channel and the Court’s website.
“We are dedicated to continue the Court’s business with minimal disruption,” Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor said. “We are using the latest technology that makes remote oral arguments possible. It is important for the Supreme Court to do what every court in Ohio is asked to do, conduct business within the Director Of Health’s directives and do so consistent with their essential functions.”
The Court will employ remote-conference software when it hears eight cases, four each on April 7 and 8. The sessions will begin at their usual time, 9 a.m. EDT.
