The Ohio Supreme Court annual report features significant cases and civic education highlights in 2017.
Noteworthy decisions from the bench and civic education accomplishments took center stage last year at the Ohio Supreme Court, according to the Court’s newly released annual report.
The pages tell the year’s story, beginning with two fresh faces on the bench.
Justices Patrick F. Fischer and R. Patrick DeWine were sworn in to the Court, surrounded by family and friends.
Significant court decisions are featured in the report. Among them: the unconstitutionality of three state law provisions regulating red light and speed cameras, and a county coroner’s successful attempt to deny unredacted autopsy reports of a mass murder.
The Court’s Off-Site Court Program was featured in the story “Robes on the Road.” The program brought the state’s highest level of the judicial branch to the people of Morgan and Washington counties in 2017.
The civic education accomplishments were on display, noting that staffers and volunteers guided hundreds of tours, welcoming 12,809 visitors, including 10,000 students from across Ohio.
The report documented rule changes, case statistics, staff accomplishments, and a day-by-day year in review.
The Court’s work, through its seven divisions and affiliated offices, adheres to a vision statement of administering justice with integrity and providing leadership for the judicial branch.
