Ohio Supreme Court justices have approved the appointment of Anderson M. Renick as the new clerk of the Ohio Court of Claims. He replaces Mark Reed, who took a job as vice president of compliance and legal affairs for the Council on Aging of Southwest Ohio.
Renick has served as a magistrate with the Court of Claims since December 1998.
The Court of Claims was established in 1975 by the Ohio General Assembly, giving citizens the right to file civil suits against state agencies. Today this court is where all civil actions against the state are tried. It employs 21 individuals, and the Ohio Supreme Court chief justice traditionally appoints retired judges to serve on the Court of Claims. In 2014, Judges Patrick M. McGrath and Dale A. Crawford, both retired from the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, served as the judges.
“I’m very excited to serve as the clerk of the Court of Claims. I look forward to serving the judges, Judges McGrath and Crawford, and the great staff at the court,” Renick said. “I look forward to assisting the court to continue to put out quality decisions.”
Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor, who administered the oath to Renick, praised his leadership and skills.
“Andy’s extensive experience at the Court of Claims coupled with his military service in the navy as a naval flight officer will serve him well as he assumes the new role as clerk of the Court of Claims,” Chief Justice O’Connor said.
Previously, he was a staff attorney for the Court of Claims. He received his bachelor’s from Virginia Tech, his master’s from Ohio State University, and his law degree from Capital University.
