Ohio Supreme Court Releases Annual Report
New faces, notable decisions, and the first-ever statewide Dispute Resolution Conference were highlights at the Ohio Supreme Court last year, according to the Court’s newly released 2018 annual report.
Justices Melody J. Stewart and Michael P. Donnelly were elected to the Court in the November 2018 election, as Justices Terrence O’Donnell and Mary DeGenaro moved on.
Significant court decisions from 2018 are featured in the report. Among them: newspapers can inspect Pike County autopsy reports; a football player’s widow can pursue a head injury lawsuit against Notre Dame and the NCAA; and the Cincinnati Reds can score a tax exemption when they give away bobbleheads.
The Court’s statewide Dispute Resolution Conference and Specialized Docket Conference are featured in the report, displaying how top speakers and experts came together to help resolve problems and fight opioid addiction.
The report also highlights media coverage from the law library’s Rock ‘n’ Roll exhibit to the dedicated volunteers who led 13,000 visitors, including 10,000 students, on tours of the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center last year.
The report documents rule changes, case statistics, staff accomplishments, and a month-by-month year in review.
The Court’s work, through its seven divisions and affiliated offices, adheres to a vision statement of administrating justice with integrity and providing leadership for the judicial branch.
