New Lawyers Will Be Sworn In on Monday

New attorneys will take the oath of office May 13 during an official session of the Ohio Supreme Court at the Palace Theatre.

More than 170 new lawyers will walk across the stage at the Palace Theatre in Columbus May 13 to receive their law certificates and be admitted to practice law in Ohio.

Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor will administer the oath of office to applicants who were successful in the February Ohio bar examination and who have satisfied all of the Supreme Court’s requirements for admission.

About 53 percent of those who sat for the February exam received a passing score. Sixty-six percent of the first-time test takers passed.

Justice Sharon Kennedy will give the keynote speech during the bar admissions ceremony, which will begin at 2 p.m.

The oath will be administered to eligible applicants from Ohio State University, Capital University, University of Dayton, University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, Cleveland-Marshall School of Law, Case Western Reserve University, University of Toledo, Ohio Northern University, University of Akron, and out-of-state schools.

The ceremony will be streamed live on the Supreme Court’s website.
