More than 160 people involved in Ohio’s lawyer disciplinary system recently gathered for an annual training seminar in Columbus. The presentation at the Miller-Becker institute included a discussion of social media and the impact of law office technology on legal ethics.
Attendees also received advice on interviewing witnesses during a disciplinary investigation, as well as an update on recent disciplinary decisions and advisory opinions.
“The Miller-Becker Seminar provides a unique education opportunity for those who aid the Ohio Supreme Court in its constitutional responsibility to regulate the practice of law,” said Richard A. Dove, director of the Board of Professional Conduct. “The board and Miller-Becker Center are pleased to offer this training to those who contribute their time and talents to the oversight of the legal profession.”
Seminar attendees included volunteer lawyers and laypersons who participate in the investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of lawyer disciplinary matters and lawyers who represent attorneys accused of professional misconduct.
The annual Miller-Becker Seminar is co-sponsored by the Ohio Board of Professional Conduct and the Miller-Becker Center for Professional Responsibility in Akron. The seminar is named after the late Joseph Miller and William Becker. Both devoted a significant portion of their legal careers to enhancing professional responsibility and legal ethics in Ohio and nationwide.
