Registration deadline is nearing for the second statewide Dispute Resolution Conference in Columbus.

National and state leaders who’ve used dispute resolution to solve high-profile conflicts will explore new strategies at the Ohio Supreme Court’s second statewide dispute resolution conference on March 10. The deadline to register is March 6. Walk-in registration will be accepted the day of the event.

The conference, which will take place at Ohio State University in Columbus, will feature more than 30 breakout sessions, as well as an acclaimed keynote speaker and distinguished lunch panel. The event has been approved for six hours of CLE.

High-profile mediator Kenneth Feinberg, who managed the compensation to victims following the Sandy Hook, Aurora, and Virginia Tech shootings, in addition to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the Boston Marathon bombing, will be the keynote speaker.

Nancy Hardin Rogers, professor emeritus and former dean of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and former Ohio attorney general, will moderate a distinguished panel on complex litigation and polarized-community situations in a session titled, “Frontiers for Dispute Resolution.” Panelists are:

  • Paul Embley: chief information officer and technology division director, the National Center for State Courts
  • Kenneth Feinberg: the country’s most recognized mediator
  • Serpil Ergun: chief magistrate, administrator for judicial operations, Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court
  • Michael Lewis: JAMS mediator and arbitrator
  • Judge Daniel A. Polster: U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio
  • Robby Southers: manager, Franklin County Municipal Court Self-Help Resource Center
  • Kyle Strickland: senior legal analyst, The Kirwan Institute, Ohio State University
  • Nancy Welsh: professor of law and director of the dispute resolution program, Texas A&M University School of Law

The conference is hosted by the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission on Dispute Resolution and Dispute Resolution Section. The section promotes statewide rules and uniform standards concerning dispute resolution programs; develops and delivers innovative dispute resolution services to Ohio courts and sponsors training programs for judges, court personnel, and dispute resolution professionals; and provides mediation for Supreme Court litigants, Ohio Court of Claims litigants, and Ohio public officials. The commission advises the Court and its staff on these activities.
