What started as a friendly wager between two state supreme court justices rooting for their beloved college football teams will end in an even friendlier meeting when they highlight legal aid and pro bono work in their respective states.
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Judith French and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack are scheduled to meet in Toledo on Thursday, Jan. 10, to settle their November bet on the Ohio State vs. Michigan game in November, which the Buckeyes won. Along with Justice McCormack providing some highly-regarded local cuisine from Michigan, the arrangement will be an opportunity for the justices to meet with Toledo-area attorneys and shed light on legal assistance provided on both sides of the states’ border. The discussions will provide the justices and legal aid representatives an opportunity to share the efforts and potential improvements that can be made regarding access to justice.
The afternoon’s events include lunch with the justices, a roundtable at the Toledo Bar Association, and a meeting with the legal aid staff at Legal Aid of Western Ohio and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality.
