Eighth District Court of Appeals Judge Frank D. Celebrezze Jr. served as a visiting judge on the Ohio Supreme Court today and heard oral arguments in a case on whether a medical equipment company waited too long to assert in a class action lawsuit that employees signed arbitration agreements.
Judge Celebrezze replaced Justice Michael Donnelly, who recused himself from Edward F. Gembarski v. PartsSource Inc., Case no. 2018-0125.
According to the Ohio Constitution, in the event of a recusal by a justice, the chief justice can select any of the 69 sitting Ohio appellate court judges to sit temporarily on the Supreme Court.
Judge Celebrezze last sat for oral arguments on the Ohio Supreme Court in 2011.
“Everytime I come to Columbus, I am so honored to sit with the Ohio Supreme Court,” Judge Celebrezze said.
He was elected to the Court of Appeals Eighth District, in 2000, after serving as a trial judge of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court since 1993. He received his bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University and his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
The Eighth District Court of Appeals serves Cuyahoga County in northern Ohio, and hears cases from county, municipal and common pleas courts as well as original actions in habeas corpus, mandamus, prohibition, procedendo and quo warranto.
