For the second year in a row the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center Foundation is helping bring students to the Supreme Court.
Foundation members are giving the court’s Civic Education Section $20,000 for transportation grants, which will be used to help schools across Ohio pay for bussing to visit the court’s Visitor Education Center.
The transportation grants will help fund field trips to the Moyer Judicial Center for more than 60 Ohio schools during the 2012-2013 school year. The grants, worth up to $440, will be awarded on a needs basis, with priority given to schools with the highest percentage of economically disadvantaged students as reported to the Ohio Department of Education.
Last year, the foundation gave $30,000 to the Civic Education Section for transportation grants, and 100 schools were awarded grants.
“We’re pleased to be working with the foundation again on such a valuable program and are looking forward to once again providing much needed assistance to teachers and students across the state,” said Julie Manning, Visitor Education Center coordinator.
The Visitor Education Center features interactive exhibits and courtroom settings where students can learn more about the judicial system through a fun, hands-on approach.
Only online applications will be accepted from September 14-20. For more information please call the Visitor Education Center 614.387.9223 or e-mail courttours@sc.ohio.gov.
