The Hardin County Courthouse has reached a milestone. Built in 1915, the courthouse is 100 years old this year, and the community will celebrate on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
“We are holding this celebration to honor the centennial of the dedication of our courthouse – a beautiful example of neoclassical architecture that has been lovingly maintained. We wanted to give all the people in the county and surrounding areas a fun day to get to know the gem we have. This celebration will help to pass on the stories and traditions of the last hundred years to our children and grandchildren,” said Becky Potts, a member of the committee that planned the celebration.
The festivities begin at 11 a.m. and will include tours of the courthouse, games and food on the lawn, and a performance in the courtroom by the Hardin County Players.
The current courthouse is the third for Hardin County. It sits in the heart of the county seat of Kenton and is still used by the Hardin County Common Pleas Court and its probate and juvenile divisions. The courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
