Nearly $9 million in fees collected primarily from Ohio lawyers supported disciplinary-related activities, legal services for low-income residents, and intervention programs in Fiscal Year 2016, according to the Ohio Supreme Court Attorney Services Fund Fiscal Year 2016 report.

The funding comes from attorney registration fees, late registration fees, reinstatement fees, and other sources as outlined in the Rules for the Government of the Bar.

Expenditures for last fiscal year, which ended June 30, included:

• $5.38 million for disciplinary-related expenses, including $2.9 million to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, $1.8 million to the Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection, and $682,474 for the Board of Professional Conduct.
• Grants totaling more than $1 million to the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation to assist low-income Ohioans and to the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program to assist lawyers, judges, and law school students who suffer from alcoholism, substance abuse, or mental illness.
• $652,764 for the Court’s Office of Attorney Services, which oversees the delivery of services to Ohio attorneys and assists the Court in the exercise of its constitutional duty to regulate the practice of law.
