Courthouses Across Ohio Celebrate America 250

Local courts find ways to celebrate America 250 within their counties.
As the 250th anniversary of the United States approaches, the Supreme Court of Ohio is highlighting the ways courts across Ohio are celebrating.
Adams County
On June 13, the Adams County Committee celebrated America 250 on the lawn of the courthouse with a picnic, entertainment, and prizes.
Geauga County
Celebrate the renovation of the Geauga County Courthouse on the Fourth of July with a special America 250 dedication and time capsule ceremony.
Guernsey County
Visit the Guernsey County Courthouse through July 4 to experience its America 250 light show illuminating the courthouse.
Highland County
The Highland County America 250 celebration takes place on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, featuring theatrical performances, Pioneer Day exhibits, courthouse tours, community activities, and a grand finale concert on the courthouse lawn.
Lake County
Go see the America 250 Revolutionary War Patriots marker outside the Lake County Courthouse honoring patriots buried in the county.
Licking County
In conjunction with America 250-Ohio’s efforts to plant a white oak tree in all of Ohio’s 88 counties, Licking County city staff planted a white oak tree on the grounds of the Licking County Courthouse on April 24. Take a selfie with the budding oak and check out what the recently renovated courthouse has to offer.
Summit County
Visit the Summit County Domestic Relations Court for its Judicial Scavenger Hunt: “Law or Legend.” As part of the statewide commemoration of the United States semiquincentennial, the Judicial Scavenger Hunt offers a self-paced, interactive activity showcasing information about the judiciary along with details of Summit County’s rich history. This creative initiative will give participants historical context for buildings and landmarks in and around the courthouse and throughout the county.
Wyandot County
Join the city of Upper Sandusky on July 2 to “walk in 1776” with authentic food, crafts of the day, period costume judging, and folk music along the courthouse sidewalks.
Celebrating America 250: Ohio Courts Survey
To commemorate America 250, the Supreme Court is also conducting a survey to gather insights into the plans and initiatives that Ohio courts have developed to mark this historic milestone. Share events and ideas for a collective celebration of America 250. The feedback will also help identify ways the Supreme Court can support local court initiatives and amplify the successes statewide.
