83 Attorneys Sanctioned for CLE Noncompliance
The Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education has sanctioned 83 attorneys for failing to comply with continuing legal education (CLE) requirements.
Attorneys need to stay informed of changes in laws, legal technology, and developments in their practice area to provide the best service to clients.
Of the 83 attorneys sanctioned, 12 were suspended from the practice of law. Nine of the attorneys were suspended for not completing the required education hours, not filing evidence of compliance as required, and for being out of compliance for two previous compliance periods. Two attorneys were suspended for not completing the requisite hours, not filing evidence of compliance as required, and not paying a prior commission-ordered sanction. The remaining attorney was suspended for failing to complete New Lawyer Training requirements.
The remaining 71 attorneys received monetary sanctions only.
Suspended attorneys can return to the practice of law by making up their CLE deficiency and applying for reinstatement.
Ohio attorneys are required to submit proof that they have completed 24 hours of accredited CLE every other year. Attorneys whose last names begin with A through L must complete requirements by the end of each odd-numbered year. Attorneys whose names start with M through Z must complete requirements by the end of each even-numbered year. The sanctioned attorneys haven’t met the requirements for the 2024-2025 compliance period.
