Supreme Court Offers July Bar Exam in Four Locations for the First Time
More than 1,000 candidates sat for the July examination across the state
More than 1,000 aspiring attorneys sit for bar exam at four Ohio locations.
In its continuing effort to make the application and examination process more efficient, convenient and less costly for aspiring attorneys, the Supreme Court of Ohio offered the Ohio Bar Examination in four locations across the state on July 28 and 29.
A total of 1,028 test-takers registered for the exam, with 829 sitting for the first time. The examinees represent 57 counties in Ohio and 25 states in the country.
Last summer, the Supreme Court introduced the first-ever regional format when it offered the bar exam in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus. This summer, Toledo was added to that list. Additional locations for nonstandard testing accommodations included Case Western Reserve University School of Law and Capital University Law School.
Ahead of the exam, 381 people were registered to take it in Cleveland, 331 in Columbus, 224 in Cincinnati, and 92 in Toledo.
The examinees were assigned locations based on indicated preferences. Those who graduated from Ohio law schools were generally associated with the following locations:
- Cleveland – Cleveland State University College of Law, University of Akron School of Law, and Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
- Toledo – University of Toledo College of Law and Ohio Northern University Claude W. Pettit College of Law.
- Columbus – Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and Capital University Law School.
- Cincinnati – University of Cincinnati College of Law, University of Dayton School of Law, and Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law.
The Supreme Court of Ohio perpetually reviews the Ohio bar application, testing and admittance process. Administrative Director Bob Horner said, “the Supreme Court has identified and implemented many improvements to this process and we look forward to our continuing work with Ohio’s law students, schools and members of the Ohio bar to design and deploy processes to ensure that Ohio remains one of the national leaders in supporting the development and deployment of our attorneys.”
Results will be released on Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. on the Court website. Successful applicants who meet all other requirements for admission to the legal profession will be celebrated on Nov. 16 when they are officially sworn in as attorneys during the Bar Admissions Ceremony in Columbus.
