Seats of Justice: A Look at Harrison County
The next stop on the Supreme Court’s tour of county courthouses takes viewers to Cadiz in Harrison County.
Built during a time of wealth in the small coal mining community, hundreds came out to see the laying of the cornerstone of the county’s current courthouse in 1893.
Judges, historians, and county leaders tell the story of the rise and fall of coal mining in Harrison County and describe the beauty of the Harrison County Courthouse.
The building boasts stained glass ceilings, a rotunda, and grand murals. The lower level of the courthouse was once home to the public library for more than 100 years.
