The Supreme Court announced the results of the July Bar Exam today.

For the first time, the Supreme Court of Ohio offered the Ohio Bar Examination in four locations across the state this summer, including Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Toledo. Results from the July bar exam were announced today.

Of the 1,011 aspiring attorneys who took the exam, 720 (71%) passed. A total of 828 examinees took the exam for the first time, and 676 (82%) received a passing score. The successful examinees represent 60 Ohio counties and 27 states.

Those who meet all requirements for admission to the Ohio legal profession will be sworn in as attorneys during one of two special sessions of the Supreme Court in Columbus at the Palace Theatre on Monday, Nov. 16. The Bar Admissions ceremony will also be livestreamed on the Supreme Court website. Ceremonies are at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Following each ceremony, the new attorneys and their guests are invited to the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center. The Ohio State Bar Association will host a reception in the Grand Concourse, including food, complimentary headshots, and photos inside the Courtroom in front of the Supreme Court bench. The Court’s Office of Attorney Services Registration and CLE Section will be available with information on attorney registration, new lawyer training, and the Court’s Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program.

The following organizations will also be present to answer questions from new attorneys:

  • Supreme Court of Ohio Law Library
  • Office of Disciplinary Counsel, Supreme Court of Ohio
  • Ohio Board of Professional Conduct
  • Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection
  • Ohio Access to Justice Foundation
  • Ohio pro bono organizations

The bar exam is administered twice a year by the Court, which regulates the practice of law in Ohio, including the admission of new attorneys, the biennial registration of current attorneys, attorney discipline in cases of misconduct, and the administration of continuing legal education.
